The feeder is surrounded by sturdy 16 gauge vinyl coated wire mesh with 1-1/2" openings to keep out starlings. The top and bottom are fully galvanized steel sheet and powder coated.Ā This feeder is designed to deter black and grey squirrels.Ā  Red squirrels and chipmunks are small enough to gain access to caged feeders.
